The Origin & Foundation of the International Women's Department + Church of God in Christ:

Bishop Charles Harrison Mason was instrumental in the establishment of the Department of Women in 1911, appointing Mother Lizzie Woods Robinson as its first Overseer. This initiative gave women a platform to embrace spiritual empowerment and leadership through the guidance of the Holy Ghost. In the early days, these women led fervent prayer gatherings, engaged in extended fasting, and organized overnight consecration meetings (shut-ins), fostering unity and spiritual discipline. Trailblazers like Mother Robinson and her daughter, Lillian Brooks Coffey, mentored other women, boldly challenging societal norms and advocating for a life rooted in holiness and scripture. Drawing inspiration from Titus 2 in the New Testament, where Paul instructs Titus to guide believers in Crete on living godly lives, these women emphasized the importance of sound doctrine, good works, self-control, and behavior that reflects God's grace. They championed their roles as spiritual leaders, teaching others to honor the Gospel and prepare for the return of Christ.

The Work of the Ecclesiastical Jurisdictional Women's Department:

The Ecclesiastical Jurisdicional WOMEN'S DEPARTMENT involves leading spiritual, emotional, and practical support for Women, coordinating Bible Studies, Events (like Prayer Days), and Programs that foster growth, discipleship, and community, while implementing a broader vision of the church leadership, focusing on empowerment, evangelism, and addressing women's needs within our jurisdictional structure and reach.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT  - overseeing Bible studies, prayer ministries, and discipleship programs, guiding the women of faith.

 

2. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT - creating and managing activities for spiritual, passionate, and intellectual growth, including retreats, conferences, and emphasis days.

 

3. LEADERSHIP & COORDINATION - recruiting and training local and district women church leaders, coordinating activities across the jurisdictional spanse, and reporting to the higher church officials.

 

4. NEEDS ASSESSMENT - the use of surveys and interviews to identify and address the unique needs of women, young ladies, and girls in this ecclesiastical jurisdiction.

 

5. COMMUNITY BUILDING - Fostering a supportive environment,  encouraging participation in the jurisdicional mission, and promoting genuine fellowship among the feminine spectrum.

 

6. EVANGELISM & OUTREACH - the engagement in real mission work and supporting the community around us through feasible initiatives that will impact women, young ladies, and girls.

 

7. WOMEN ADMINISTRATION - the management of fiduciary budgets, utilizing operable communication channels, and working logistics for the sake of jurisdictional events, ensuring an alignment with our church doctrine.

 

8. HOLISTIC CARE - addressing emotional well-being, providing a support system for those who may be in crisis, and finding ways to promote physical health.

 

9. JURISDICTIONAL SUPPORT - encouraging the women in characteristics of loyalty, supporting the ecclesiastical leadership with financial contributions/ required reports, thus intergrating women in ministry for the overall jurisdictional body.
